Durham County
residents who received a delinquent motor vehicle tax bill on Monday, August 10
alerted the Durham County Tax Office that the Orange County Tax Office address
mistakenly appears on the envelope. The error occurred when the printing
vendor, who prints for both counties, failed to use Durham County envelopes for
the mailing.
Approximately
3,400 delinquent notices were affected. Officials note that the tax bill itself
is correct and the return envelope inside for mailing payments is correctly
addressed. This error will affect only the mail that the US Postal Service is
unable to deliver due to categories of undeliverable mail due to incorrect
address, forwarding order expired, and attempted but not known.
Durham County
Tax Administrator, Kimberly Simpson notes that the printing company is very
apologetic for the error and will assume all expenses incurred due to
mix-up.
