Tax Administration Office Recognized for Efficient Service

Durham, N.C. – In February of 2008, the Durham County Tax Administration installed the state’s first-ever tax payment kiosk.  The kiosk, one of two now operated by the county, is located just outside the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles’ (NCDMV) Office at Northgate Mall.  It enables citizens to make payment for their real, personal and motor vehicle taxes.  Recently, the unique customer service kiosk was recognized as an award-winning efficient program.

Each year, the Local Government Federal Credit Union (LGFCU) Employee Productivity Award is presented to 10 North Carolina county employees for their efforts to improve the efficiency of county programs, services and general administration.  As a recipient of this year’s LGFCU Employee Productivity Award, the Tax Administration Office believes that the entire department deserves credit for the success of tax payment kiosks.  Therefore, the department plans to use the award winnings on an activity or items that will benefit the department as a whole.

“I am thankful for the assistance of our partners Durham County Finance, Purchasing, Legal and IT departments, NC DMV, Northgate Tag Agency, Northgate Mall, Nex Gen, Voice Data Solutions and Braken Associates, as they played a vital part in the success of this projects,” said Kimberly Simpson, tax administrator for Durham County Government.  According to Simpson, the installations of the kiosks have provided a convenience to citizens, as well as, the opportunity to communicate to the Hispanic population.

To learn more about the Durham County Tax Administration Office’s receipt of the LGFCU award, contact Simpson at (919) 560-0300 or via e-mail at ksimpson@durhamcountync.gov. Winners of the LGFCU Employee Productivity Award will be recognized at the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners' Annual Conference on Friday, August 28, 2009, in Catawba County.

LGFCU is a not-for-profit, member-owned financial cooperative established to serve the financial needs of local government employees, elected officials, volunteers and their families.
