Durham, N.C. – The Durham County
Administrative Complex, located at 200 E. Main Street, is without running water
or operable restrooms due to a water line break at Main and Roxboro
Streets. The water line break
occurred sometime last night and continued to impact water supply this
morning. All County offices located
outside of the Administrative Complex have water and are open.
County Manager
Michael Ruffin stands by his decision to close the Administrative building in
order to protect the health and safety of employees and patrons in the
building. “We are faced with a
sanitation issue when there is not running water in our building,” said
Ruffin. “Keeping the well being of
our employees and patrons in mind, I believe I made the best call to close our
building. I anticipate that the
problem will be resolved by tomorrow and our building will reopen with normal
operating hours.”
The County
continues to work closely with the City’s Department Water Management to restore
water to the Administrative Complex.
The decision
to close the Administrative Complex impacts the Register of Deeds, Tax
Administration, County Manager, County Attorney, Clerk to the Board, Human
Resources, Budget and Management Services, and Finance.
