Tax Administration Offers Convenient Payment Plans

Durham, N.C. – In August 2009, the 2009 real property and personal property tax bills were mailed to citizens.  The due date to settle these tax bills is quickly approaching.  Citizens unable to resolve their tax debt in full by January 5, 2010, are strongly encouraged to contact the Tax Administration Department to set up a payment plan.  A payment plan is an agreement with the Tax Department to pay down tax debt a quickly as possible in installments that are more manageable for a citizen.

“The payment plan program, which only can be entered by contacting the Tax Department, allows citizens to budget their property taxes and ensure their debt is paid before they become delinquent on January 5, 2010,” said Kimberly Simpson, tax administrator for Durham County Government.  “This program is not required by law.  However, we strive to help our citizens as much as we can.”

Whether a citizen is able to pay the full amount owed immediately or whether a payment agreement is established, there are three options to pay tax bills.  E-services payments, allowing payment by e-check, credit card, or scheduling payments for electronic draft, that are set up via the Tax Department website is one tax payment option.  Another option is to pay using the payment kiosk at North Gate Mall.  The additional options are to pay by mail or visit the Tax Department located at 200 East Main Street, first floor.

Many citizens are unaware that Durham County Tax Department offers a payment option.  To learn more about the payment plan program or to enroll in the program, citizens must contact the Tax Department at 919-560-0300.
