Durham, N.C. – For the sixth
consecutive year, the Durham County Budget and Management Services Department
can add the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance
Officers Association (GFOA) to its list of successes. Last week, the County Budget Department
received the award for fiscal year 2009-2010 for budgeting excellence related to
its annual budget document.
The
Distinguished Budget Presentation Award reflects that the county’s budget
satisfies guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are
designed to assess how well an organization’s budget serves as a policy
document, an operations guide, a communications device and a financial plan.
Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories to receive
the award.
“The award
reflects a significant commitment by the Board of County Commissioners and staff
to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting,” said Pam Meyer,
director of the Durham County Budget and Management Services Department.
“This is the 13th time the county has won the award.”
The GFOA,
serving the public finance profession since 1906, is a nonprofit association
serving more than 17,600 government finance professionals throughout North
America. GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Awards Program is the only national awards
program in governmental budgeting.
