– The Durham County Board of Commissioners met in a regular session on Monday,
October 26 at 7 p.m. and considered an agenda that included the following

Meeting
Highlights:
The
Board honored Ms. Lee Lichtenwalter, winner of the 2009 GlaxoSmithKline Public
Health staff Recognition Award. She
is a member of the Durham County Public Health Nutrition Division and during the
past 20 years she has provided outstanding nutrition care, client advocacy and
education related to infants and young children.
Chairman
Michael D. Page proclaimed November as “Adoption Month” in Durham County to
raise community awareness of the many ways to support children who await a
loving, permanent family.
New
Beginnings Outreach Community Development Corporation received the Commissioners
Community Circle award for their efforts to develop leaders in the community
through skills training and to locate employment for participants. The group works with ex-offenders
transition from incarceration. New
Beginnings was also selected for the recognition due to its current transitional
housing project. Rev Phillip
Jackson, founder of New Beginning Outreach CDC accepted the
award.
The
Board conducted a public hearing on the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) Text
Change on Historic Landmark Criteria. After hearing from staff, the Board
approved the text change that revises the criteria for designation of a Historic
Landmark that clarifies and improves the designation criteria.
